Dr Spott Close up

Dr. Joseph Spott

As an Indiana native, I am pleased to care for patients in Northwest Indiana. My goals are to present the highest level of orthopedic care, free the patient from painful symptoms, and provide comprehensive, long-term relief. In order to reach those goals, I utilize a variety of techniques from non-surgical therapeutic alternatives to complex spine instrumentation, disk replacements, and decompressions as appropriate for each patient.

I am committed to working with each patient to achieve satisfactory management of the condition. Whenever possible, I use minimally invasive surgical techniques such as micro-discectomy, foraminotomy, and vertebroplasty.

My general orthopedic techniques for fracture repair, minimally invasive joint replacements, and state of the art skeletal fixation are used to decrease the amount of convalescence and speed the recovery to fit societies demands for a speedy return to a normal lifestyle.

Board-certified in orthopedic spine surgery, I earned my degree in Osteopathic Medicine from the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Services in Des Moines, Iowa. After receiving my degree in 1993, I completed a rotating clinical internship and a residency in orthopedic surgery at Michigan State University at Oakland General Hospital in Madison Heights.

Post-residency, I turned my attention to a year-long fellowship in orthopedic spine surgery at PSC in Louisville, Kentucky and Indianapolis Neurosurgical Group in Indianapolis. Prior to starting my own practice, Superior Orthopedics, I was a partner of the Chicago Institute of Neurosurgery and Neuro-research (CINN) and was a founding member of the CINN Institute for Spine Care. I am currently a member of the American Osteopathic Association, American Medical Association, Indiana Osteopathic Association, Indiana State Medical Society, and Lake County Medical Society.

Ariel Brazzale MSN, FNP-BC, CSFA - Nurse Practitioner, Surgical Assistant

As the Orthopedic Nurse Practitioner at Superior Orthopedics, my goals for our patients are to ensure all concerns are addressed with your current condition while assessing patients thoroughly, ordering the appropriate tests, and following up with care as needed. My approach as an orthopedic practitioner is a blend of the scientific process, current evidence and national standards of care with a holistic approach tailored to each patient.

My background stems from the operating room where I have been working with Dr. Spott for over 15 years. As a Certified Surgical First Assistant, orthopedics and spine surgery are my specialties. Dr. Spott and I work together in the operating room to deliver exceptional care and ensure optimal patient results. I can answer any and all questions you have about surgery. I understand that this can be a scary time for patients, so it is important to me that each and every patient feels as comfortable as possible.

As a patient of ours at Superior Orthopedics, I believe you will sense a unique experience encorporating two practitioners blending care as needed. I will be your guide through the surgical process as well as the post-operative process after surgery. I am your contact for any questions or concerns during your surgery.

In my free time, I like to hang out with my 3 kids, travel, play with my 2 cats Obi and Oreo, and read a good book!
